Old brick and tile works Lankelma completed the first phase of testing at the West Kent Cold Stores, Sevenoaks. The site was the location of an old brick and tile works which, once decommissioned, was filled in with demolition material from structures bombed in WW2. The site has been chosen for a housing development. However, in addition to the main pit, there are other smaller areas with past excavations that are also in-filled. 5m grid Lankelma was brought in to prove the base levels of the pits, with testing carried out using a 5m grid over the suspected excavation areas. The greatest depths were anticipated at 11-12m below ground. Instructions were given to stop testing when the probe had left the fill and had penetrated no more than 1m of the natural clays. 3D interpretations The data will generate below ground 3D interpretations of the pits. At the time of writing approximately half the 400 tests have been successfully completed to time and budget. UK2, our 20 tonne box crawler has proven to be the ideal rig in these rough ground conditions. |
